Record Store Day – Saturday 16th April 2016

The most important event of the year for any vinyl record collector is the third Saturday in April, Record Store Day. Since 2007 this annual celebration of the good old LP and Single has become a mouth watering event for music fans and the chance to add some very unique titles to their collections.

This annual celebration of the culture of the independent record shop, brings together fans, artists and record stores from around the world. For this occasion around 400 titles are pressed specifically for the day and distributed to shops participating in the event. These pressings are not available for sale by online stores or major high street chains, just by your local high street music shop.

On Saturday 16th April, The Vault, which is based at 1 Castle Street in Christchurch, and run by Alan and Chrissy, will be open from 8am to celebrate this day with the biggest stock of these Limited Edition one off titles in the area. It’s the second year the store has celebrated this special event in the town, and last April the shop was swamped by music fans from all around the area, all eager to grab that special item for their collection. The queue started outside the shop at 10pm on Friday night !!

The list of records being released for this year will be announced in March and it’s a closely guarded secret until then, but last year there were exclusive releases by artists such as David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Bee Gees, Bob Marley, The Beach Boys and many others. On average only 750 copies are pressed of each title and they will become instant collectors items.

Record Store Day is a fantastic chance to get hold of some very collectable vinyl records, support a local record shop, meet up with fellow music fans and best of all enjoy the way music was meant to be heard….on good old vinyl records.
